When I was first considering a realtor to sell my house, my main thoughts were about how to avoid getting a realtor. Past experience had left me suspicious of them as a group. In the end, though, it proved necessary. It was going to be a tricky sale, as the house was in a small community and it was important that the neighbors feel comfortable with the new buyers, a daunting task in the slow housing market and tough economic climate. The first realtor my co-owner called was familiar with the neighborhood, and the preferred choice of the neighbors. After meeting with this realtor, though, I felt my suspicions were confirmed: I left the meeting with very little information, and even less hope that the house would move quickly.
Luckily, I had heard Joanie Schwartz's name mentioned, and I gave her a call. She met with us right away, and the difference was night and day. Joanie was prepared with pages of comps, what had sold recently, what wasn't selling, and a fount of knowledge about what we had to do to the house to get it ready. She had good, reliable workers to recommend to do the work... a real asset. She also had experience selling within a community, and knew others in the area who were seeking community. A perfect fit. She led us through a very difficult sale with confidence, and the house sold in under two months!
Later that year, I decided to look into buying again. I was thinking of a two-family house that I could live in while renting the other half. I didn't think twice before calling Joanie. Within a day or two, I met her in Greenfield with a list of five houses to see. I had brought a friend along to see the houses with me, and he and Joanie hit it off instantly. We all piled into Joanie's Honda and headed off on a tour of multies in the area. Here I got to see a different side of Joanie: as we walked through old houses, her love of what she does was obvious. She has experience with virtually every aspect of houses, having renovated many herself. Her expertise was priceless as she gave estimates of what each house would need, and what was cosmetic and what was serious. Never did I feel that she was pushing me towards a house, or that she was interested solely in making a sale. She helped me find the house that was the best fit for me, and led me through the purchase with humor and grace, and helped find solutions to any hurdles that arose throughout the process. I was soon settled into my new home , again in under two months.
Joanie is someone who comes to bat for you and works tirelessly on your behalf in a professional manner, but at the same time quickly becomes a friend. She loves people as much as she loves houses, which couldn't be better for someone who works to bring the two together. Joanie Schwartz demonstrates what an asset a good realtor is, and I couldn't be happier to recommend her!
